Chateau Dodge Theatre – Rochester
Built in 1927, the Chateau Theater has been adaptively reused as Barnes & Noble Booksellers while retaining a playful expression of architectural styles. From its Byzantine three-arched windows with serpentine columns to its starlit ceiling and interior medieval village sculpted wall relief, the setting provides as much of the experience as the stage or screen to the audience. Even today, visitors are greeted by the original massive starburst marquee and extensive colored terra cotta detailing. The theatre provided a significant entertainment venue to visitors arriving for a visit to the Mayo Clinic, which is located two blocks away. The original theatre was designed by Ellerbe Architects.
