UPDATE: We’ve got more than 140 people signed up to attend this event already!
We are excited to return to the Soap Factory in Minneapolis again this year for our third annual, (Anti)Wrecking Ball. We’re taking a bit of a different approach though, in the past we charged $8/$10 to attend; however in 2012, we’re making it a FREE event!
Come on out, you’ll have an opportunity to participate in a great raffle, win door prizes (if you pre-register), hear local band July Fighter, grab beer provided by Surly Brewing and wine at our (Anti)Wrecking Bar — Sponsored by Collaborative Design Group — and The Twisted Sister House of Hunger food truck will have food for purchase. The added bonus is that this is also the first night of Art-A-Whirl and the Soap Factory gallery will be open as well. This is a great opportunity to combine your support for local artists and your favorite historic preservation organization.
We’ve got some great door prizes including Guthrie Theater and Minnesota Twins tickets, a kayak tour and an autographed copy of Lost Twin Cities. We’ll have a Booze Wall, and for those of you less familiar with the concept, this is how it works: We have roughly 75 items ranging from bottles of wine to Scotch and even a Bacardi chair, our attendees put in $10, pull a cork and that cork has a number that corresponds with an item. Hopefully you’ll participate!
(Anti) Wrecking Ball
Friday, May 18th
7:00-10:30pm
Soap Factory

Take part in one of these activities in the (Anti)Wrecking Ball’s interactive exhibit as well:
Demolition Dinner Theater – Watch a jazzy film of the Metropolitan Building’s demise as you dine on your food-truck findings.
Lego Landmarks – Get up-close and personal with the Lego model of the Minnesota State Capitol – and then try your hand at rendering one of your favorite historic buildings in Legos! Sponsored by Meyer, Borgman, Johnson.
Are You a Wrecker, or a Builder? – Do a gut-check as you weigh whether it’s more fun to build up or knock down, and then brand yourself as a “builder” or a “wrecker” for the duration of the evening. Sure to inspire some interesting conversation! Sponsored by Allman & Associates.
What Else is Possible? – Participate in an art activity by Springboard for the Arts – Lakes Region, focused on the rehabilitation and reuse potential of the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center’s historic Kirkbride Building.
Places That Matter Slideshow – We’ve been receiving crowd-sourced photos highlighting places across the great state of Minnesota. All we can say is that it goes to show just how diverse preservation can be! Sponsored by the Kasson Alliance for REstoration (KARE).
