Opportunity
The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota (PAM) seeks a part-time intern to help manage the digital media and communications of the organization. We’ve been working diligently to engage people interested in historic preservation about the events and work of the organization. As our Digital Media Intern, you will get the chance to learn more about historic preservation while providing updated information to the masses!
Job Summary
Provide support to help advance PAM’s outreach efforts through a variety of mediums. Execute the programmatic mission by assisting with the regular activities of the organization and all of its programs. Promote the organization through assisting with the creation and distribution of communication materials about PAM.
Duties & Responsibilities
Specific Internship Project Duties
- Update and maintain social media resources (website, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr);
- Update and maintain web resources – news, calendar events, PAM blog and general information on the PAM website;
- Monthly generation of Google Analytics;
- Maintaining news alert tracking system;
- Compile PAM and Minnesota Main Street’s monthly E-News;
- Assist with press releases, flyers, and promotional materials;
- Monthly blogging (or more often).
General Internship Project Duties
- Meet with the Communication & Programs Coordinator at the beginning of the internship to define specific project goals.
- Provide a brief bi-weekly report of work plan activities to your supervisor.
- Record your internship schedule on Google calendar and ensure it is kept up-to-date.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and computerized back-ups of your projects including meetings, contacts made, research, and status and final reports. Ensure that this information is organized and accessible to PAM staff during and after internship;
- Provide timely response to requests from Executive Director and other PAM staff;
- Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings;
- Other duties as assigned;
- Respect the confidentiality wishes of the organization;
- Complete a final report about internship experience to be reviewed at exit interview.
Reimbursements
- Provide requests for needed purchases to the Minnesota Main Street Program Coordinator in advance of making the purchase for appropriate approval and ordering;
- Submit parking receipts monthly to the Communication and Programs Coordinator for reimbursement.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of general office operations;
- General computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs;
- Pleasant, tactful, detail-oriented, knowledgeable in working with stakeholders, staff, and other volunteers;
- Familiarity with PC systems and knowledge of HTML code desirable;
- Strong writing skills including proper spelling, word choice, and correct grammar;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others through cross communication, prioritization, and timely and accurate response and delivery;
- Ability to communicate effectively using a wide variety of media;
- Ability to accept direction, seek guidance, work independently, demonstrate initiative, and report results for the effective completion of projects;
- Ambassador of goodwill for the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota.
Credentials & Experience
- Individual must have completed at least two years toward a Bachelor’s Degree;
- Experience with online communication tools a must;
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign & Photoshop) and/or layout design;
- Experience in communications, marketing, social media, public relations, web design desired;
- Experience using HTML code preferred;
- Familiarity with Vertical Response, or similar email marketing tools;
- Interest in historic preservation.
