Haecker Hall on the Saint Paul Campus was named for the father of Minesota’s Dairy Coops, Theopjilus Haeker. The renaissance revival building designed by Clarence Johnston was completed in 1923. A civil war veteran from Wisconson, Haeker came to the University of Minnesota to run the dairy school in 1891. He worked at the university until 1917. He may be best remembered for his favorite saying, ” Treat the cow kindly and remember she’s a lady and a mother.” A plaque in Haekler Hall recounts his contributions to the school and the dairy industry.
